Singapore is a fascinating place. The city-state island on the southern tip of the Malaysian Peninsula is impeccably clean and well run, with commerce and finance as its focus. Originally an obscure fishing village, the British made it a major port during the colonial era, and it has seen a stunning rise to prominence in the last few decades. The people are friendly, and the society is truly multi-cultural, with Chinese, Malays, Indians, Arabs, Europeans and others living in harmony. The religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam co-exist peacefully. There are four official languages spoken: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. Indeed, there is nowhere else in all of Asia where so many people of different backgrounds interact in complete harmony while still maintaining their own distinctive cultures.

The city is the perfect size for exploration. It hosts wonderful exhibits and attractions, serves up some of the best cuisine on earth, and its confluence of cultures is intoxicating. It’s hard to think of another city in the world that can surpass Singapore as an ideal stopover destination.
