NEPAL IS A YEAR-ROUND DESTINATION.

Similar to the northern reaches of India, Nepal ranges from tropical to sub-arctic at the highest elevations making it an ideal travel destination for most of the year. Elevation has a significant effect on the temperatures and weather of Nepal, making some destinations pleasant and cool during the hottest times of the year and vice versa during the winter months.

Activities need to be planned in accordance with the time of year to ensure a successful visit. ATJ’s travel specialists are uniquely qualified to help you determine the best times of year to visit based on your interests.

Spring (Basanta Ritu)

Mid-March to Mid May

Considered one of the best times of year to visit. Warm and tropical in most locations and becoming very hot by the end of the season. A wonderful time to head to the mountains and higher elevations. This is also the best time of year to witness blooming rhododendrons and jacaranda trees.

Early Summer (Grishma Ritu)

Mid-May to Mid-July

Hot in early summer, except for elevations above 5000’ with gradually higher amounts of rainfall as the summer progresses bringing about cooler temperatures albeit with higher humidity. Landscapes transform from dry to lush and verdant. Heavy rainfall between mid-June and early September can make travel unpredictable in the country’s more remote regions.

Summer Monsoon (Barsha Ritu)

Mid-July to Mid-September

Barsha translates to Rain. Most regions experience light to heavy rainfall daily. Trekking the Trans Himalayan Region is popular at this time.

Early Autumn (Sharad Ritu)

Mid-September to Mid-November

Considered one of the best times of the year to visit as it is also Festival Season. Gradually less and less rainfall as temperatures dip and fall progresses into winter. The highest, most extreme elevations become too cold to comfortably travel to.

Late Autumn (Hemanta Ritu)

Mid-November to Mid-January

Late fall offers beautiful, clear blue skies and mountain vistas. It's time to harvest crops for the local farmers.

Winter (Shishir Ritu)

Mid-January to Mid-March

Depending on the region, winter varies a lot. A good time of year except for the highest elevations above 10,000’. Lower and intermediate elevations are cool, dry, and pleasant with little to no rainfall. Beautifully clear and sunny days with snowcapped mountain vistas.
