Colorful. Mystical. Dynamic.
While mostly a tropical destination, India is also home to four other climatic zones; continental, dry, temperate, and polar. Travelers need to consider both the time of year, as well as the destinations to ensure the best possible travel experience. ATJ’s travel specialists are uniquely qualified to help our travelers discover the best times of year to visit based on their interests. |
A continuation of the best time of year to visit. Little to no rainfall and surprisingly cool nights for some of India’s iconic destinations. All but the highest mountain elevations can be visited comfortably.
Warm and tropical in most locations, becoming very hot by the end of the season. A wonderful time to visit higher elevations throughout the subcontinent.
Hot in early summer, except for elevations above 5000’ with increasing amounts of rainfall as the summer progresses bringing about cooler temperatures albeit with higher humidity. Landscapes transform from dry and arid to lush and verdant, even India’s fabled deserts. Higher elevations and some coastal areas can experience heavy rainfall making overland travel unpredictable from mid to late summer.
Gradually less and less rainfall and temperatures begin to dip as fall progresses into winter. The fall months mark the beginning of the best time of year to visit India including the Himalayan foothills. The highest elevations become too cold to comfortably visit.
